seeing green

Thrifted cardigan, Country Road tee, Miss Shop skirt, Novo sneakers, watch from mum

If I ever need an intervention in my life (possibly inspired by this classic scene from How I Met Your Mother), I'm pretty sure it'll be because I wear this skirt way too much. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for buying basics and cost-per-wear and all that jazz. However, sometimes it's so hard to stand in front of my wardrobe and feel inspired by the sea of neutrals staring back at me! I feel like I have a lot of shopping to do until I reach that coveted idea of the 'perfect' wardrobe, if that even exists.

Anyway, on to the rest of my outfit! There comes a time in one's life when you have to succumb and wear sneakers, and today was just one of those occasions. I never even knew that I had these babies until today, but the advantages of sharing a shoe size with your mum is that your collection effectively doubles. These took me from the State Library to the shops painlessly (a rare occurrence for me, sadly enough), so I'll probably be claiming them as my own for the time being!

In other news, I feel like I have to address the elephant in the room and explain why my blog has been so quiet lately. Like always, a pileup of uni work and lack of inspiration are basically the reasons why I've been MIA! I should probably get my organisational act together soon, but now I'm curious. If you're a blogger, what works for you? Does a posting calendar keep you in check, or do you just blog things whenever the mood strikes? Anyway, please let me know and I hope you're all having a great week so far!

Spring Wishlist

Even though I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here, I seriously can't wait for spring to arrive. While the weather in Sydney has been behaving with temperatures of over 20°C this week, it just isn't the same until the months switch over! Until then, I'll continue to feel weird about donning summer dresses and bare legs while it's still officially winter... Anyway, with the new season comes an annual cleanup and wardrobe overhaul, so here are some picks that may or may not be directly related to spring:

1. Anthropologie Wish Tree Jewellery Holder - In my dreams, right? We don't even have Anthropologie in Australia, but considering that this tree looks like a work of art I think it'd be worth every penny. Plus, does anyone else think it'd make a gorgeous variation on a Christmas tree?

2. Windsor Smith Lily Sandal - My sandal collection currently consists of one pair, so I feel like this is a much-needed addition to my closet! I do love a good clunky shoe, and these would add height without looking too 'prissy', for lack of a better word.

3. Nixon Small Kensington Watch - I know I already own a gold watch, but I swear this one's different! I love its minimalistic appeal and the fact that it's not more flashy than it needs to be, like so many other statement watches that I've seen lately.

4. Essie Summer Collection 2013 - I've never been a fan of traditional pastels on my nails, since I've always thought that they clash with my skin tone. I think these unexpected shades are great for spring though, especially since I wear so many neutrals!

5. ASOS Smock Dress in Oversized Floral Print - Finally, a fashion trend I can get behind. Aside from reminding me of my childhood, I think this would also be convenient for days when I plan on doing a lot of eating...

6. Need Supply Co Rockland Backpack - My current uni bag is about to rip at the seams, so this looks like the perfect replacement in terms of cuteness and functionality. In fact, I think backpacks in general are great, seeing as I like being handsfree when I'm out and about!

7. Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm - There's no rhyme or reason as to why I want this, really. After looking up the endless benefits of cleansing balms over regular facial washes, I just feel like I need to give in to the hype and try it!

8. Modcloth Best Friends Fur-Ever Mug - The cold weather may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up my cups of tea any time soon. I'm not even much of a cat lady, but this may be the cutest mug I've ever seen...

9. ASOS Handcuff Ditsy Bracelet - I love jewellery that attracts a second look, and the quirky detail of this bracelet does just that. When it's warmer I also tend towards dainty jewellery, since there's nothing worse than that sticky feeling you get from wearing heavier pieces!

So, what are your picks for the new season? Regardless of where you are I think it's that time of year when everyone is bored of their current weather situation, so it's nice to get excited about new seasonal items for change. Anyway, I hope you're having a great week so far!

everyday essentials

I have to admit, a year or two ago I could hardly say that I knew anything about makeup. Save for a couple of things that I pinched from my mum's collection, I didn't have many products at all, and would rather spend my hard-earned cash on books and food! However, the more I delve into the wonderful world of beauty blogs and Youtube channels, I've gotten into that dangerous cycle of wanting a certain product... then the next one... and so on. While I don't think I've reached product junkie status yet, there are definitely some makeup items that I can't live without (going clockwise from the left):

Designer Brands 9 Mineral Eye Shadow Palette - To be honest, I've never been a big collector of eye shadow. Even here, the three neutrals on the right are the only shades that I regularly dip into! This palette's getting a bit gross now that I think about it, but it's versatile and gets the job done.

Maybelline Baby Lips Loves Color Lipcare in Pink Lolita - Just the latest addition to my collection of lip balms, which even I have to admit is getting a tad excessive! This balm does exactly what it claims to, and moisturises whilst leaving behind the subtlest hint of pink.

Models Prefer Retractable Eyebrow Pencil - This thing is sold out nearly every time I visit my local Priceline, so I guess that's saying something! I used to fiddle with eyebrow powders and the like, but this is a cheap and cheerful solution that gets the job done in one sleek package.

Urban Decay Primer Potion - This stuff has cult status for a reason, and I can definitely see the difference in vibrancy whenever I apply it underneath my eyeshadow! The only downside is that it's unavailable locally, and I actually bought it from Sephora in Singapore. Australia really needs to get its act together and bring Urban Decay down here already...

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation - Again, every beauty blogger and their mum has raved about this foundation, but not without good reason! While the foundation has pretty light coverage, it just looks amazing and glides over the skin effortlessly. Plus, the end result doesn't leave dry patches and never looks cakey.

Australis 10 Hour Wear Eye Pencil in Bombastic Bronze - I couldn't not throw this into the mix, mainly because it's just so easy. In fact, lately I've been skipping the eyeshadow because it's so fiddly in comparison to whacking this onto my eyelids!

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Melt-in Cream - I stocked up on this overseas, but now they've finally brought the brand to Priceline. It goes without saying that sun protection's important, even more so for me since my skin's quite photosensitive! This one's SPF50+ and recommended for people with sun allergies, so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream - Another addition to the lip balm collection... need I say more?

Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer - It's a bit pricey, but considering this primer has lasted me such a long time I'd say it's definitely worth the investment. I find that it provides a good base for foundation, and doesn't feel like it's clogging my pores like other primers tend to.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - The waterproof version holds a curl on my impossibly straight Asian lashes, which is saying a lot! The only downside is that it's a bit of a pain to remove and often leaves me with panda eyes, so any makeup remover suggestions are welcome.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic - I've already raved about these lip stains multiple times, so I'll spare you just this once! Needless to say, I've got a bit of a collection going on and should probably start restraining myself...

So, that's about it for my makeup essentials! To be perfectly honest, I'm the type of person that rarely changes face products, but I regularly stock up on cheap thrills like nail polish and lip products, since I feel like those things are the most interchangeable with my mood. Priorities, right? Anyway, I hope you're having a great week!

bespectacled

Thrifted denim jacket and t-shirt, Miss Shop skirt, Dotti boots, Zara bag, Lovisa rings

Even though it's not usually obvious, I have pretty terrible eyesight. In fact, I'm not just slightly myopic, but usually I can't see 20cm past my nose and am pretty much blind without some sort of visual aid! Anyway, while I've worn contact lenses regularly for about five years, a recent bout of dry eyes had the optometrist prescribe me a combination of eye drops and a break from contacts in favour of glasses. While the good news is my eyes are a little less dry now, I'll probably keep wearing specs to give my eyes a much-needed break from the strain I constantly put them through. After all, it doesn't look like I'm giving up my internet habit any time soon, and if I'm going to be spending money on glasses I might as well use them!

Moving on, this is a pretty casual outfit that I wore on a last-ditch shopping trip before uni started again this week. The story behind this bag is that I got it in Melbourne, since my trusty Sportsgirl satchel was literally ripping at the seams and I was forced to bin it. I'm still in the market for a replacement black satchel with silver hardware, but for now I guess this one will have to suffice. My number one deal breaker when it comes to bags is that it has to fit my bulky DSLR, so this one should fit the bill until I manage to find one that's just right. Funny how I say that, but considering how picky I am I don't think it's happening any time soon!
