vivid sydney

And now, a little break from all the travel posts that have been flooding my blog lately! Even though Japan has its fair share of gorgeous illuminations, I have to admit I was a little bummed to be missing Vivid while I was studying abroad last year. As much as I complain that the lights are getting less interesting every year, I've always loved the novelty of roaming around the city at night. Not to mention, the colours and lively atmosphere make it a photographer's dream come true.

I loved this installation called Unsui, which basically emulated the experience of being inside a cloud. Even if only for a few minutes, it was super relaxing to watch the sky transform through a passing thunderstorm.

An interesting take on the humble dandelion. I didn't get a chance to try it, but apparently blowing on one of the interactive sculptures caused them to light up! In past years I hadn't really explored Vivid in the Royal Botanical Gardens, so it was kinda fun to see the lights in a different area of the city for once.

Some sights to be seen around the Rocks. On the day of my second visit it was raining, but luckily it cleared up just before the lights went on. I got to enjoy a night of walking around with next to no crowds, or at least by Vivid standards I did!

I almost missed this whimsical umbrella installation, which was tucked away in a little side street! Come to think of it, this would've been the perfect place to be if there was a sudden downpour of rain haha.

I definitely think a lot of the action gets lost in photos, so here's a video recap of the things I saw! There are still so many areas of the city I haven't checked out yet, although I'm a bit hesitant to face the inevitable crush of people in Vivid's final days. In any case, there's still a week left to check out the lights if you happen to be around Sydney!
